Turning Leaf Project: Proud Partnership

Hello Neurolawgical friends!

I am psyched to announce the recent partnership between the Turning Leaf Project (TLP) and Neurolawgical. Through some collaboration, a shirt design was developed and now is available for purchase through the TLP's shop https://www.turningleafproject.com/product/short-sleeve-neurolawgical-logo-t-shirt/?v=b7cca3ac854b or on Neurolawgical's "SHOP" page.

Turning Leaf Project is "a four month program of group therapy and transitional employment to help men think and act differently so they stay out of prison." By purchasing products through Turning Leaf Project, "the NeuroLAWgical logo shirt is printed by a person who was just released from prison and is working to gain job skills in our screen-printing shop. Along with the shirt, you’ll receive one of our student’s stories." All of their shirts are printed by men who were released from prison, primarily men who were incarcerated for crimes involving money and violence. As part of the TLP program, they participate in four months of group therapy, consisting of a 150-hour long curriculum. This curriculum includes aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which aims to address negative thinking patterns or distortions. Additionally, they receive weekly one-on-one therapy. Finally, they are taught screen-printing related skills and employed, and assisted in being placed in employment post-graduation from the program. The program boasts a recidivism rate of their graduates being 20 percent, which is below the average for South Carolina (where TLP is based), as well as less than half of recidivism rates in states such as Alaska (63%) and Delaware (64%) and Pennsylvania (46%) (World Population Review, 2020). Recidivism rates for this were considered those released from prison who reoffended within three-years.

You'll notice that the front of the shirt has this podcast/blog's name, and on the reverse side there is a design of someone pointing to their temple. This is a design found as a mural in their print shop lobby. When in group, the men put their finger to their head when role playing a "thinking step". This not only is a visual representation of CBT techniques but a great parallel to the thinking that goes behind the content of Neurolawgical and hopefully comes out of reading/listening to the content as well.

Stay tuned for a future podcast episode with an interview of TLP staff :D I hope you will support a great organization along with me.
