Make a Recommendation Monday [6/22/2020]
Today's recommendation - a podcast episode titled "The Aging Brain: It ain't all downhill."
The podcast this episode is featured on is a podcast previously recommended here on Neurolawgical, ABC's "All in the Mind". However, this particular episode deserves extra attention this month. As you may have noticed, some recent posts on this page have been about elder abuse, Alzheimer's disease, and older adults, due to the national recognition each has during the month of June. This podcast episode focuses on the brain as someone ages, with some new insights, and battling some old misconceptions.
The episode mentions Alzheimer's disease, as well as other conditions related to aging. The episode also focuses on many of the postives of aging, things that are not normally discussed (unfortunately) when people talk about aging. If you or someone you know falls into the category of an older adult, I highly recommend a listen to this podcast episode to help you reflect and learn about the hope and positive outcomes of aging. Side note: a benefit to podcasts is that they present information in a user-friendly way. They present information that otherwise you would need to spend hours or days reading books, articles, and doing other research, to you in a tidy 30-minute or so audio clip.
Additional bonus for all of you book lovers seeking new recommendations, podcasts often offer book recommendations within the episode and may even provide the information in the episode description. For example, this podcast episode mentioned in this post offers the book "Successful Aging: A Neuroscientist Expores the Power and Potential of Our Lives" by Daniel Levitin (the person interviewed in the episode!).
